The 27-year-old was killed after the car he was driving left the road and crashed through a hedge yesterday.

The former Corbet School student, from Shrewsbury, was driving a silver Mazda on the B5067 on the outskirts of the town and is thought to have been heading from Shrewsbury towards Baschurch.

The road was closed between Gravel Hill and Dunns Heath.

Friends have taken to Facebook to pay tribute to Mr Stealey, and a YouTube video has been uploaded in his memory.

Will Hotwheels Martin said: "Today I lost 1 of my best mates, like a brother and carer/PA all in one."

Benjamin Littlehales said: "Having such heartbreaking news as I am about to leave the cinema, news I wish I didn't have to hear, a few tears were shed, I lad I was brought up with and spent a lot of my childhood around, never forget spending time with you listening to your music blaring out of your room, never forget how cocky you was at pool and the way you could drink a pint, all the good times spent with your family.

"Going to miss you Shaun Stealey Rest in peace owd lad, love you buddy xxx."

The road was closed between Gravel Hill and Dunns Heath for several hours while investigations were carried out yesterday, and police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They believe a motorcyclist may have passed the car seconds before it crashed at 7.47am.

PC Colin Martin, of West Mercia Police, added: "Our thoughts go out to the family of this man, at this terrible time.

"We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident, particularly a motorcyclist who we believe was travelling away from Shrewsbury just before the incident happened."

The crash is the third fatal accident to happen in Shropshire in a matter of days, after a 61-year-old cyclist was found dead on the side of the A49 on Monday morning.

Drivers who may have seen him are being urged to come forward. Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson also appealed to the driver of the vehicle involved in the collision to get in touch as a matter of urgency.

The man was riding home along the A49 to Bayston Hill from his place of work in Church Stretton when it is believed he was struck by a vehicle. His body was found on the roadside verge by a tractor driver shortly 5am on Monday.

DCI Jamieson said: "I am making a direct appeal to the driver of the vehicle involved to contact us as soon as possible to assist in establishing exactly what happened. Please contact Shrewsbury police station on 101."

Grandmother Glenda Anita Crump was also killed in a separate accident on the B5061 on Saturday, and her 10-year-old grandson was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital with potential pelvic injuries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Police on 101.
