The sun shone on the official opening of the new adventure golf course in Telford Town Park, with residents of all ages trying out the 12-hole course.

The course, which has cost £100,000 to put together, officially opened on Saturday although it has been available to play since half term in February.

Almost 400 people played the course over the official opening weekend, but more than 1,300 people since its launch.

The ribbon was cut by Councillor Liz Clare, Telford & Wrekin cabinet member for leisure services and culture, followed by demonstrations from the Dean Davis Trick Shot Golf Show.

Councillor Clare said: "The new adventure golf course is a fantastic addition to the town park and I am delighted at the numbers of people who have already come along to try it out.

"Telford Town Park offers leisure activities for all ages, with the water play for younger children and the high ropes course that both opened last year, bike hub and now the golf course. The summer months are the perfect opportunity to come and enjoy everything that the town park has to offer."

Park manager Nicola Allen said the feedback to the new attraction had been really positive since its launch in February.

She said: "The cost has been pitched right. If someone wants to come to the park and not spend any money then they have the play areas but then there is this, along with the aerial ropes and Wonderland.

"The golf course is aimed at any age and all abilities and we have made it accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs." The golf course is part of efforts by Telford & Wrekin Council to bring in income through increasing usage of the park, which is often described as the "jewel" in Telford's crown.

The park has also received a Heritage Lottery grant to improve access.
