Members of the Blue and Amber Fanzine are attempting to raise £488 for Dementia UK – the equivalent of £1 for every professional game he played.

They are also urging supporters of the other clubs he played for – Manchester City, Millwall, Hull City, Middlesborough, Walsall and Stafford Rangers – to make donations to the charity.

A statement on the Virgin Money Giving page said: "

We urge fans of all of Alf's former clubs and anyone else to dig deep for a great cause."
