West Mercia Police believes that the two crimes are linked, due to the similarity of the properties targeted, and today warned people in rural areas to keep their homes secure.

The first theft was at a home in Great Bolas on Monday. Burglars smashed a rear window with a stone or piece of concrete and after searching the property made off with an iPod touch, three Nikon SLR camera bodies and lenses worth £2,500, a red netbook computer, an iMac, a black Bose sound dock, an iPod mini and several items of jewellery including a Pandora ring.

The second burglary was in Ellerdine Heath yesterday, where the thieves entered through a window and stole a white iPad, a 17 ins Apple computer, two Toshiba laptops, a diamond ring worth £500 and other jewellery worth several thousand pounds including three diamond rings, a sapphire cluster ring and a diamond and pearl pendant necklace.

Chris Ammonds, for West Mercia Police, said: "We are looking into the possibility that they are linked, because of the type of property which may suggest people are targetting this type of property.
