Lorry driver killed in A5 crash near Oswestry

A lorry driver died today after his vehicle left the road on the A5 near Oswestry.

The incident happened shortly before 5am this morning between the Mile End roundabout and the B5009.

Emergency services were called to the scene, including firefighters from Oswestry, Ellesmere and Wellington.

The male driver was confirmed dead at the scene.

Chris Kowalik, a spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called by police at 4.51am who had come across a lorry down the embankment. One ambulance crew attended and the male driver of the lorry was confirmed dead at the scene."

Diversion routes were set up via the A495 and B5009 and were expected to remain in place during the day.
