Three lucky Newport neighbours have scooped a cool £10,000 each after their postcode was drawn on a charity lottery.

Oak Avenue residents Leigh Neilan and Ann Seabridge picked up the jackpot when their postcode, TF10 7EF, was selected as the Saturday Street Prize with the People's Postcode Lottery.

A third neighbour also won but has asked to remain anonymous.

Mrs Neilan, 34, was the first to discover that she had won when she received a knock at the door from former radio presenter Judie McCourt.

Mrs Neilan is originally from South Africa but moved to the UK with her husband Dean five years ago to join her sister in Shropshire and start their new married life.

The hotel worker said: "It really hasn't sunk in yet, I just can't believe we've won.

"We've really been struggling financially, so this will be such a weight off our shoulders.

"We've been getting rid of additional things that we don't need any more, thank goodness we didn't cancel our ticket before winning."

The couple, who have a one year-old daughter and a four year-old son, will be using the money to pay off their debts and for a weekend away.

It was then the turn of Mrs Neilan's neighbour, Mrs Seabridge, 75, to receive her £10,000 cheque.

The retired hairdresser has only been playing People's Postcode Lottery for a month and couldn't believe her luck when the cheque was revealed.

Mrs Seabridge said: "I feel on cloud nine, it really hasn't sunk in yet. I've no idea yet what I'm going to spend it on.

"I'm looking to sell my home and move into a bungalow, so it's all come at the same time. Hopefully the house moving process will be just as lucky.

"I've told my three children already – two of them live in America and one in Japan.

"It was about 9am in America and my son was driving to work, I think he was pretty surprised."

Mrs Seabridge, who moved to Newport around seven years ago from Derbyshire, promised to keep playing the charity lottery.

From every £2 ticket from the People's Postcode Lottery, 45p goes to charity.

Players play with their postcodes and there are daily draws to win £1,000 and weekly draws for £10,000.

More than £28.6m has been raised for good causes, including £9,500 for the Shropshire-based Small Woods Association.
