Emergency operation after stabbing at Newport flat
A 20-year-old man has undergone emergency surgery after being was stabbed in the stomach by two men who broke into his flat in Newport in the early hours of the morning.
The victim was taken to hospital and then underwent an operation for his injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening, after the incident at Hallcroft Gardens.
A 19-year-old man and 16-year-old youth have been arrested over the attack, which happened at around 12.40am.
Chris Ammonds, from West Mercia Police, said: "We received a call at around 12.40am to inform us that a 20-year-old man had been stabbed in the stomach.
"Police believe all the individuals involved are known to one another."
A neighbour, who did not want to be named, said he and his wife had been woken by screams.
"Just a few moments later the police and an ambulance arrived. There were lots of flashing lights and then the ambulance dashed off. It's all quite shocking."
Another neighbour added: "I was asleep and did not know a thing until the flashing blue lights woke me up. Things like this don't usually happen in Newport."
