Constable Mark Milton, of Market Drayton, spoke only to deny the charge when he appeared at Worcester Crown Court yesterday.

The court heard the alleged offence took place in a 40mph zone on the A442 at Cold Hatton, near Telford, on October 26 last year. Milton, who serves with West Mercia Police, was bailed to stand trial at the court on March 25 next year.

Milton's legal team told the court the 46-year-old is not suspended from work.

But a West Mercia Police spokesman confirmed after the hearing that he is currently suspended from driving duties.
