An out-of-control Staffordshire bull terrier died after being tasered by police after it attacked another dog in front of horrified families at a county beauty spot.
The bull terrier had the other dog by the throat when police arrived at the car park at Haughmond Hill, near Shrewsbury, at about 4pm on Tuesday.
Richard Ewels, spokesman for West Mercia Police, said: "Police received a call just before 4pm from the owner of a dog being attacked by a Staffordshire bull terrier."
He added: "It was refusing to release the distressed dog. Officers attended and a taser device was discharged in an attempt to control the terrier. It released the pet dog but continued to be dangerously out of control, posing a threat to several nearby families including small children.
"As a result, the officers had to restrain the dog. In doing so, the dog died."
Police said it was not clear what had precisely caused the death of the bull terrier.
