An athlete based in Telford who has run all over the world has been inducted into a prestigious running club after completing his 100th marathon.

Art Zammit, 41, who lives in Wolverhampton and runs for Telford Harriers, completed his 100th marathon on May 6 at the North Dorset Village Marathon.

He has completed marathons in America, France, Italy and even in the Sahara Desert and has raised thousands of pounds for charity.

He said: "When I crossed the line and was given my 100 Club medal, I got very emotional. I started thinking about the tough times; there were some days when I literally couldn't run, but I was very happy."

Mr Zammit completed the London Marathon in 1998 in four hours 29 minutes to begin his 100 Club quest, and completed the North Dorset race in four hours 51 minutes. His quickest time stands at an impressive three hours and 13 minutes, which he ran at the Ferrari Marathon in Italy.

By 2008, he had run in 50 marathons and decided to try to push himself to get to 100 as quickly as possible.

This led him to tackle 24 marathons this year, including four in four days at the Quadzilla event in Milton Keynes which was held in February.
