£15 taxi fare?after a missed bus??I'll walk it says Marjorie, 79
When 79-year-old Marjorie Waterhouse missed her bus most people would be forgiven for thinking she would take a taxi home instead.
When 79-year-old Marjorie Waterhouse missed her bus most people would be forgiven for thinking she would take a taxi home instead.
But when the pensioner was told the fare would be £15, she decided to walk rather than pay. And Mrs Waterhouse says the six-mile journey home on foot from Shifnal to Bridgnorth last Tuesday was one of the reasons she took up walking, which she says is her secret for staying young.
She is now preparing to take on the 22-mile Bridgnorth Walk for charity the day before her 80th birthday.
"I missed the bus and then I was told a taxi would cost £15 so I thought I would just walk it instead, it was a nice day. I had already walked eight miles from Shifnal to Kemberton," she said.
Mrs Waterhouse has entered this year's walk to raise money for breast and prostate cancer charities, adding that walking was part of her secret to living a 'wonderful' life.
"Too many people concentrate on their illnesses and I would recommend more people leave their car on the drive and walk. Age is just a number and if life begins at 40 I'm lucky to be doubly blessed," she added.
