Seven people had a lucky escape when the vehicle they were travelling in left a narrow lane in Mid Wales and careered down a farm embankment.

The Land Rover Discovery rolled several times after it left a lane past Dygym Farm in Mochdre, near Newtown, and skidded 200 yards down a wet slope, over a roadway and through a fence, onlookers said today.

Four adults and three children, believed to be local farmers, were in the vehicle, but all escaped serious injury. All seven were taken to hospital for treatment to minor injuries.

The incident happened as the David Davies Foxhounds were due to meet at the farm at 11.30am yesterday. George Lewis, who was on the farm at the time of the incident, said the occupants were 'extremely lucky' not to have suffered more serious injuries

He said: "I was at the farm and heard a loud bang and thought a gun had gone off at first, but I turned around and saw a Land Rover Discovery coming to a rest in the field.

"It had left the narrow road and careered down a field, over the roadway, through a fence, turned over and rolled several times."
