An annual beer festival attracting hundreds of punters to Shrewsbury has been forced to cancel its opening day –- after a mistake was made with its licence.

The 21st CAMRA Shrewsbury Beer Festival was due to kick off on November 24 between 5pm and 11pm but a mix-up with the licence at its new Morris Hall venue has seen the opening day scrapped.

Dozens of posters in Shrewsbury town centre pubs as well as places further afield such as Whitchurch and Bishop's Castle have been amended.

It was due to be the first year the event had run over three days but the festival will now run over its usual two days, bosses said.

Instead there will be extended opening times on the Friday when the show runs straight through from noon to 11pm. On Saturday, November 26, it will run from midday to 9.30pm.
