A pensioner has been arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to wildlife after 27 birds of prey were seized from a house in Shrewsbury.

A pensioner has been arrested on suspicion of causing unnecessary suffering to wildlife after 27 birds of prey were seized from a house in Shrewsbury.

Police said a 67-year-old man was arrested at a property in Boscobel Drive at about 8am yesterday and the birds, which included owls and hawks, had been taken to a safe location.

A spokesman said the man had been bailed.
