Council leaders will look into ways to get more visitors to use Ludlow's park-and-ride bus service to tackle increasing parking problems in the town.

Ludlow Town Council voted last night to hold a meeting with traders, residents and Shropshire Council in response to calls for action to free up more spaces on the town's streets.

It comes after resident John Diamond, of Mill Street, launched a campaign for more parking concessions for residents, a ban on motorhomes using on-street spaces and for traders to be forced to use the Linney car park.

Councillor Jim Smithers, from Ludlow Town Council, said: "Parking is obviously Shropshire Council's remit but after Mr Diamond came down and made a representation we decided we would get together and talk with Shropshire Council and other representatives interested in the issues to look for solutions.

"Ludlow is getting quite successful and visitor numbers are up, so at the end of the day we have got to try to get more people to use the park-and-ride scheme."
