The countdown is on for the arrival of Elton John in Shrewsbury as preparations for his arrival step up a gear.

More than 16,000 music lovers are expected to pack into the Greenhous Meadow for the gig, which will be the largest-ever held in Shropshire.

The doors of the stadium will open at 4pm on Sunday ahead of support act Ed Drewett taking to the stage at 6pm.

A limited number of tickets are still available for the show and will go on sale at the Shrewsbury Town box office from noon on Sunday until the start of the concert in the evening.

Shrewsbury Town's Ian Bebbington said: "There is still an opportunity to purchase tickets."

Meanwhile, Shropshire Council transport chiefs are confident they will be able to reopen Hazeldine Way in time for Sunday's concert after a pavement collapse last weekend resulted in a large hole being created.
