A crunch meeting to decide the fate of plans to build five luxury homes in the shadow of an 800-year-old south Shropshire church will take place on February 17.

The plans by St Laurence Homes Ltd to build the properties on land behind 9-10 King Street in Ludlow will be decided by Shropshire Council's strategic planning committee.

Campaigners have already started preparations for the meeting, claiming it is vital a decision to refuse permission for the homes next to St Laurence's Church and the Grade I-listed Reader's House is upheld. They have also rubbished claims that Shropshire Council could face a potential £20,000 bill if the developers successfully appeal.

Councillors threw out the proposals at a planning meeting on Wednesday at Ludlow Town Football Club. A venue for the meeting is yet to be confirmed.
