A HUGE POLICE probe was under way today after a woman died hours after she was found with head injuries at a house in Telford.

The 51-year-old woman, who has not been named, was found at a property in Ashbourne Close, Dawley, at lunchtime yesterday. A man in his 40s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

His arrest came shortly after the woman was taken to hospital to be treated for her injuries. But, the woman died last night.

The man remained in police custody today awaiting further questioning by detectives.

The house remained cordoned off this morning as police and forensic officers carried out investigations at the scene.

Police are waiting to find out how the woman died and a post mortem examination was due to be carried out this afternoon.

Police said they were called by the ambulance service after paramedics were alerted to "an incident" at the property.

The woman was taken to Telford's Princess Royal Hospital by ambulance, where she died last night.

Denise Wakefield, spokeswoman for Telford police, said: "A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following an alleged incident at a property in Dawley.

"A 51-year-old woman was found at the property in Ashbourne Close with head injuries following the alleged incident yesterday at around midday.

"The woman was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital but died last night from her injuries. The man is currently being questioned by detectives."

Detective Inspector Nick Haggit, of Telford CID, said the woman suffered "significant head injuries".

Officers carried out house-to-house inquiries in the area yesterday and a team of detectives was continuing the investigation today.

Neighbours said an Eastern European couple lived at the property and moved into the house in September.

Neighbour Tracy Rogers, 36, said: "I only spoke to the lady a few times. They kept themselves to themselves you see.

"I would say they moved in around September time."
