The final walk Shropshire teenager Liam Wright made before he died in a shed fire was retraced today – exactly 20 years after his death.

The 19-year-old’s sister, Deborah Mason supported by her husband John, made his final journey through Madeley in Telford this morning. Mrs Mason, who travelled from her home in Warwickshire for the 20th anniversary, said she hoped the walk would trigger something to help give them some answers.

Mr Wright’s body was discovered in the debris of a shed which was destroyed by fire at Madeley Ski Slope on September 10, 1990.

Nobody has ever been charged in connection with his death but after the case was reopened earlier this year, a man was arrested on suspicion of murder in July but later released without charge.

Their mother, Faith Wright, was unable to travel from her home in Spain for the anniversary but Mrs Mason was due to place a floral tribute at her brother’s grave on her behalf.

Mrs Mason said many of her brother’s friends had offered to join her on the walk but she wished to do it on her own.

Before the walk she said: “We are planning to walk Liam’s last steps from the Cuckoo Oak to where he ended up.

“We are starting at 10.30am because that was the time he left there on the Sunday night.

“After reaching the place where the shed was, we will be going to his grave where I will lay a floral tribute for myself and one for our mum.”

Mrs Mason said the family could not move on until they knew exactly what had happened to her brother.

“In that 20 years there’s a lot of history that hasn’t been written because of what happened to Liam.

“You ask yourself what would he be like now at the age of 39? Would he be married? Would he have children? Would I be an aunty and our mother a grandmother?”

Mrs Mason said her father, Eddie, spent years reflecting on what had happened to his son before suffering a heart attack in 2003.
