A road race cyclist in Mid Wales suffered a broken hip and collar bone when he was allegedly pushed off his bike by a passenger in a passing car.

The man was taking part in a time trial event when the car pulled alongside him and the passenger shoved him over, Dyfed-Powys Police said today.

The man was taken to Hereford General Hospital.

Superintendent Huw Meredith, of Dyfed-Powys Police, said the cyclist was riding along the A481 at Hundred House, near Llandrindod Wells, when the incident happened.

He said: "A cyclist is in hospital after a passenger in a passing vehicle is believed to have leaned out and deliberately pushed him off his bike.

"Dyfed-Powys Police are appealing for witnesses to the alleged attack at Hundred House, near Llandrindod Wells, on Saturday at about 3.45pm.

"It is believed the man was taking part in a time trial on the A481 when he received a broken hip and collar bone. The man, from Northwich, Cheshire, was taken to Hereford General Hospital."

Anthony Topazio, communications officer for Dyfed-Powys Police, said today the cyclist was recovering. He said:

"The cyclist remains in hospital at Hereford where it is hoped he will make a full recovery.

"The details surrounding this incident are very concerning and this type of behaviour will not be tolerated by Dyfed-Powys Police.

"We're hoping witnesses will get in touch and supply us with the information needed to catch those responsible."
