T'Pau pair reunited for single

The Shropshire songwriting partnership for some of the biggest selling singles of the 1980s has reunited after 20 years.

Two decades have passed since musician Ron Rogers and his then-partner Carol Decker, from Wellington, landed in the charts with T'Pau's Heart And Soul and the number one hit China In Your Hand.

The band split in the early 1990s amid relationship breakdowns and record company wrangles, but the songwriting pair are back and aiming for more chart success with Carol's new single, Just Dream.

They rekindled their musical partnership earlier this year after Shrewsbury-born Ron contacted Carol while he was working on new material in his home-studio. He said: "I had a basic idea for Just Dream and asked Carol if she could add anything to it.

"We now live 100 miles apart so we get together as often as possible and keep in touch via the internet, which is made even easier now that Carol has her own Myspace page."

The Shrewsbury-born performer said he and Carol had embraced the internet and had bypassed traditional record labels.

He said the internet now allowed the artists to oversee every aspect of the single's release themselves.

"The idea of a download-only single is to keep the whole process as creative as possible. We are in control, right down to the single cover shot," added Ron.

Carol remains a household name and regularly tours across Europe and earlier this year appeared alongside the likes of Beverley Knight and Tony Christie on BBC One's prime-time show Just The Two Of Us.

Ron now plays in local acoustic four-piece The Ronaldos, but has many fond memories of his time with T'Pau including being at number one for five weeks in 1987 with China In Your Hand.

He said: "Performing for Prince Charles and Princess Diana at the London Palladium and touring sold-out arenas was like being at a brilliant party that lasted five years."
