Eighties pop icons Bananarama wowed guests as they performed a surprise gig at a private party in Shrewsbury.
The duo performed a 45-minute set for about 200 guests invited to a party at C:21 in Abbey Foregate on Saturday night.
But organiser James Hawkins said a lot of people who had been invited did not turn up because they thought it was a hoax and was not going ahead.
Mr Hawkins said Big Brother contestants from the latest Channel Four television series were cancelled because of a dispute with contractors.
Mr Hawkins, who organised the party - which featured a Spice Girls theme - said Bananarama and Hoop La La, from Britain's Got Talent, were there and the event had been a big success.
Martin Monahan, owner of C:21, said Bananarama delighted guests on the night with a "fantastic" set.
He said: "They were hugely popular in the Quarry earlier this year. The whole crowd was electric.
"They did a fantastic set including all their main hits."
