Dave McCabe, formerly of The Zutons, will headline the Ellesmere Rocks music festival on August 27 with his band The Ramifications.

Organiser Simon Smith, from Ellesmere, said that he expected the event to attract almost 1,000 people.

And he said he was pleased to have secured the appearance of The Ramifications at the annual event which is now in its third year.

Mr Smith said: "I have been trying to get Dave McCabe to come along for the past 12 months and I think he finally gave in to my appeals.

"The Ramifications will be headlining the event and will be on stage at 9pm.

"Their front man was from The Zutons, and he wrote Valerie which was a hit for The Zutons and also for Amy Winehouse."

The Zutons were an English Indie Rock band and the song came from the band's second studio album, Tired of Hanging Around which was released in 2006.

Released as the album's second single in June 2006 it gave The Zutons their joint-biggest single to date as well as their second UK top 10 single, climbing from number 41 to its peak at number nine in the UK Singles Chart.

Ellesmere Rocks is run to raise funds for Ellesmere carnival. All proceeds from the day-long event go towards the running of the carnival.

Mr Smith added: "The carnival costs around £13,000 to run so anything we can do to help raise funds for that is a bonus.

"We receive a small amount of funding from Ellesmere Town Council and we raise money ourselves through the year by holding discos and children's parties. The music festival is a community event run by the volunteers of The Ellesmere Carnival Committee with all money going towards funding the Ellesmere Carnival."
