Brad, who is playing Buttons, dropped off a collection of gifts at the Star's office in Bellstone.

The appeal has been organised to bring a smile to the faces of children and elderly people who might otherwise find Christmas a difficult time. About 1,000 gifts have been donated by kind-hearted readers since the appeal was launched, and these will now be shared among 11 groups which help those in need.

Brad, who appears in Shrewsbury each year, said: "I'm delighted to support the appeal. We're in Cinderella this year and it's a magical show. It would be nice to think that people can share some of the magic of Christmas with kids in need by making donations.

"And it's also great that the elderly aren't being forgotten. There are plenty of people who spend Christmas alone and hopefully this appeal will spread a little light into their lives."

Theatre Severn has also donated three pairs of tickets for the panto, which will be distributed among needy children in the county.

The groups set to benefit are: Hope House Children's Hospice, Telford & Wrekin Young Carers, Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, The Harry Johnston Trust, North Shrewsbury Friendly Neighbours, the children's unit at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital, The Movement Centre, the Little Rascals Foundation, Home-Start Telford & Wrekin, Telford & Wrekin Children's Services, and Parents Opening Doors.
