Twelve singers from the Cosford and Shawbury military wives choirs sang backing vocals for Shout! star Lulu on stage at Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury, as part of a promotional tour for her new single, Cry, which was released this year.

All proceeds from the release are being donated to the Military Wives Choirs Foundation, a charity that brings women in the military community closer together through singing.

The single features the vocal talents of the Cosford Military Wives Choir, who provided backing vocals for the recording.

Choir member Joy Hutchings, from Shrewsbury, said: "Lulu got in touch with the choir and we were lucky enough to be pulled out of the hat to sing with her.

"She's doing a tour to support the single release and other choirs from all over the country will be supporting her all around the country.

"The concert sold out. It was sold out very early, which I believe means 650 people, so it was very exciting.

"Obviously I had never stepped out in front of so many people before so it's a bit nerve wracking, but there's plenty of us so it was about safety in numbers really."

Sara Scott, trustee of The Military Wives Choirs Foundation, said: "Being part of a military wives choir makes a positive difference to women's lives by improving well-being, building friendships and developing skills. The opportunity for different military wives choirs to perform Cry with Lulu at each date of her UK tour was such an honour."

The single Cry is available to download from iTunes.
