More rain meant more mud for the 362 men and women who finished the 10 kilometre course around Bomere Lake, Condover.

Many wore fancy dress for the challenge.

This year has seen five mud runs in the county, organised by the Ultimate Fitness Experience group and sponsored by Mercedes Benz of Shrewsbury, Thorntons solicitors and Treowe.

Tom Meehan, from Ultimate Fitness, said there would be one more event this year.

"Today has been fantastic event," he said."We have serious competitors vying for the five series championships running alongside those doing it for charity and those doing it for fun."

"We must thank all the marshals and volunteers for all their help. They make our events possible. Our final event of the year sees us head back to Bomere for the White Run, a five kilometre introduction to mud running on December 27," he said.

One of the competitors, Jody Wilson from Oswestry, who finished in 37th place said the events were expertly run.

"Bomere lake has always been my favourite venue for the Shropshire mud run, it has lakes, ponds water pits and of course mud – plenty of mud," she said.

"I welcomed this week's torrential rain, knowing it would make the course even better."
