Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has taken his new motoring show to Amazon with a jibe at the BBC, saying it felt like he had " climbed out of a biplane and into a spaceship".
Clarkson, whose contract was not renewed after he punched a member of the show's staff during a "fracas", is teaming up with co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May as well as producer Andy Wilman.
He said: " I feel like I've climbed out of a biplane and into a spaceship."
They have signed a deal with the online giant to make three series of 12 episodes each that will be available to Amazon Prime customers from next year.
May joked: "We have become part of the new age of smart TV. Ironic, isn't it?"
Wilman told Broadcast Magazine they had "chats" with ITV but clauses in their BBC contracts prevented them moving to a terrestrial rival within two years of leaving the corporation.
He said they would have stayed at the BBC but for the controversy that ended Clarkson's time there.
He said: " We didn't plan this and we would have carried on but that's life, and crikey it's looking pretty good right now.
"We get to carry on working, we get new challenges and Top Gear is in good hands. The viewers get two car shows, there's nothing wrong with that."
Chris Evans has been unveiled as the man trusted with reinventing the show for the BBC and he will reportedly be joined by Formula One driver Jenson Button as co-host.
