Finishing touches are being made to the stage for the festival, which will be held over two nights at Queen Elizabeth II Fields in Trust in Telford Town Park tomorrow and Saturday.

A giant crane is being used to set up the stage and sound equipment for a line-up which will include stars such as Rick Astley, ABC, Go West, Jaki Graham, Lawson and Union J.

Mike Dignam will play a 20-minute slot on Saturday after stepping in because female singer Tich was forced to pull out with an injury to her vocal cords.

The event will support charities the Teenage Cancer Trust, Severn Hospice and the Georgia Williams Trust.

Workers have spent this week putting together the stage, marquees, a ski slope – where people will be able to do tobogganing – and a photo booth, where people can dress up in 80s clothes.

Sarah Belcher, event and festival specialist at Telford & Wrekin Council, said this weekend was the culmination of 12 months of planning which began when last year's festival ended.

She said: "So far so good, everything is going to plan. But it has been a lot of hard work.

"The cover is now going on the stage and we should have some teepee style marquees put up across the field over the next few days.

"We've got a ski slope, where people will be able to do tobogganing, arriving today. We've also got a photo booth coming, where people can dress up in 80s clothes and delicious food, which will be provided by Fordhall Farm, like fish and chips and a hog roast. We'll also have a bar which is being sponsored by The Place Theatre in Oakengates

"There are also a number of charity stalls and businesses, the Body Shop will also be giving people 80s makeovers so there's going to be a real party atmosphere. I'm looking forward to seeing the acts on stage, especially Rick Astley. I remember him from my childhood."

Tickets for both nights are on sale and can be booked by calling the box office on (01952) 382382 or online at www.t-live.co.uk They can also be bought at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place box office, leisure centres, Telford Ice Rink, Telford Shopping Centre, Southwater One and the Town Park Visitor Centre.

Also as part of the preparations, Telford & Wrekin Council has teamed up with Arriva Midlands to ensure event goers can get to the town park safely, by putting on extra buses each evening on the X5, 481 and 891 services.
