Melanie Freet, a senior animal keeper at the zoo, is running in support of a cause that is close to home, with both her brother and partner living with Crohn’s and colitis.

Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are long-term conditions that can have a major impact on everyday life, often causing pain, fatigue and ongoing health issues. Melanie says she hopes her run will help raise awareness as well as funds for the charity.

“I wanted to do something positive for Crohn’s & Colitis UK because I’ve seen the impact these conditions have on people I love,” said Melanie. “They do amazing work supporting people and funding research, and I’m proud to be able to help.”

Money raised will support research into better treatments and potential cures, along with services that provide practical help and support to people living with the conditions.

Will, owner of Hoo Zoo & Dinosaur World, said: “We’re really proud of Melanie. It’s a big challenge and a really personal cause for her. The whole team is behind her and cheering her on.”
