West End performer to lead theatre workshop for young people
Aspiring performers aged nine to 17 can learn acting, singing and storytelling skills at a Shropshire theatre
Young aspiring performers will have the chance to learn from a West End professional at a theatre workshop in Shropshire during the October half-term holiday.
The Holroyd Community Theatre, at Moreton Hall School, will host Prepare with the Pros on Wednesday, October 21, from 10am to 4pm.
The workshop will be led by professional performer Teleri Hughes, whose credits include Heathers: The Musical in the West End, as well as Les Misérables, Spring Awakening and Sweeney Todd.
The event will feature practical sessions covering acting, singing, character development and storytelling, giving participants the opportunity to build confidence, develop their skills and learn more about working in theatre, stage and screen.
It is open to young people aged nine to 17, whether they already have performance experience or are interested in exploring musical theatre for the first time.
Michael Jenkins, creative director at The Holroyd Community Theatre, said the workshop aimed to help young people see the possibilities of a career in the performing arts.
He said: “Opportunities like Prepare with the Pros are so important because they give young people that ‘see it, be it’ moment.
“It’s one thing to watch a performer on stage or on screen and think, ‘I’d love to do that’, but it’s something else entirely to meet someone working in the industry, learn from them directly and begin to see that a future in the performing arts could be possible for you, too.”
He added that meeting professionals, asking questions and trying new things in a supportive environment could make a difference to young people's confidence and ambitions.
Places can be booked through the Holroyd Theatre website.
