John Mustafa, one of the trustees at Shrewsbury Muslim Centre, who has helped organise the annual multicultural fun day at the United Reformed Church in Shrewsbury for the past 17 years, said: “It was wonderful to have a visit from our town's MP Julia Buckley, who was very kind and considerate.

“She encouraged us to be more for the whole community and not just the Muslim community and of course this is what we have sought to do for many years. We will make every effort to continue to reach out to the wider community with friendship and kindness.”

Julia Buckley said: “It was such a great pleasure to be able to visit the centre and chat with members face-to-face.

“I was also delighted to hear that they host school visits to give children an insight into their culture. Any local schools who’ve not yet visited and would like to do so should get in touch with the centre. And visits from organisations and interested individuals are also welcome.

“Anything that can encourage greater understanding and help us all live together in harmony has to be a good thing.”
