Shrewsbury Food Hub receives £5,000 donation to tackle food waste
The St James’s Place Charitable Foundation has donated £5,000 to help the charity rescue surplus food and distribute it to people and community groups across Shropshire
Shrewsbury Food Hub has received a £5,000 donation to support its work rescuing surplus food and helping communities across Shropshire.

The money has been awarded by the St James’s Place Charitable Foundation, following a meeting between the charity’s head of fundraising, David Johns, and representatives of Throgmorton Associates Wealth Management at the Shropshire Business Festival in Telford in March.
Johns met Chimene Felton and Ethan Jones during his first week in the role, with their initial conversation leading to a relationship that has now resulted in the donation.
Johns said: “From our very first conversation with Chimene and Ethan, it was clear they shared our passion for creating positive change in local communities.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the St James’s Place Charitable Foundation for this generous support. This donation will help us continue rescuing good food, reducing waste and ensuring it reaches people and organisations across Shropshire who can benefit from it.”
Felton and Jones recently visited the Food Hub’s depot to see how surplus food is collected, sorted and redistributed by volunteers.
They saw food being prepared for redistribution, including stacks of pizza, and visited the charity’s Community Kitchen, where volunteers were using surplus fruit to make Christmas cakes.
The visit ended with the presentation of a £5,000 cheque to the charity.
Felton, of Throgmorton Associates Wealth Management, said: “Seeing the Food Hub’s work firsthand has been truly inspiring. From the volume of food being rescued and redistributed to the dedication of the volunteers, it’s clear what a difference the organisation makes every day.
“We’re delighted that the St James’s Place Charitable Foundation has been able to support such a worthwhile local charity and look forward to seeing the impact this funding will have.”
The Food Hub said the donation would help it rescue more food, support community groups and reduce waste across Shropshire.
