Twenty-eight members of 5k Your Way, Move Against Cancer met at The Quarry bandstand on Saturday, August 22, a week earlier than their usual last-Saturday-of-the-month meeting.

The group joined nearly 700 other people taking part in Parkrun, with members running, jogging, walking or volunteering.

5k Your Way supports people living with or beyond cancer, as well as their friends, family and supporters.

The group highlights the benefits of movement and exercise for people affected by cancer, including helping to manage some of the side effects of treatment and supporting mental wellbeing.

There are more than 100 5k Your Way groups across the country, which meet alongside their local Parkrun on the last Saturday of each month.

The Shrewsbury group was also supported by Mayor Bernie Bentick, who completed the course wearing his mayoral chain.

Afterwards, members gathered at Stop cafe for coffee, cake and a chance to chat.

The group says it is not a running club but a support group with a difference, and welcomes anyone affected by cancer who would like encouragement to get moving.

People do not have to complete the full Parkrun course, or even take part in the run, and can simply meet the group for coffee and cake.

The Shrewsbury group has 10 ambassadors who look out for those who may need support.

The group meets at 8.45am at The Quarry bandstand on the last Saturday of each month, followed by a gathering at Stop cafe.
