James Morgan will begin the challenge at 10am on Friday, June 19, running continuously around the Quarry and surrounding areas in aid of Shropshire Mental Health Support.

The fundraiser aims to raise £1,000 for the charity, which supports more than 12,000 people each year and provides services including a wellbeing vehicle, Shropshire Sanctuary and a 24-hour telephone support line.

James said the challenge was inspired by his own experiences following a severe psychological breakdown in December 2024.

He said: “This challenge is not just about pushing my physical limits; it is a heartfelt effort to raise vital funds for Shropshire Mental Health Support, an organisation that has played a crucial role in helping to rebuild my confidence.

“I have a long way to go in my recovery, but I believe I am on the right track with incredible support around me.”

During the challenge, the charity’s wellbeing vehicle will be based in the Quarry and used as a refuelling and support point for runners while also raising awareness of the organisation’s work.

The wellbeing vehicle travels to locations across Shropshire, offering direct support to people experiencing mental health difficulties, including crisis support, suicide prevention resources and outreach services.

James added that members of Shrewsbury Park Run are expected to join him during the final hour of the challenge.

Heather Ireland, chief executive of Shropshire Mental Health Support, praised James for taking on the challenge.

She said: “We are grateful to James for undertaking such a formidable challenge to raise not only much-needed funds but also awareness of mental health issues.

“Our wellbeing vehicle provides direct support to individuals in crisis, offers suicide prevention resources, conducts outreach and advocacy efforts, and assists individuals and families of those experiencing mental health challenges.”

Shropshire Mental Health Support said one in four people will experience poor mental health during their lifetime.
