Rare postal art to be showcased at Wellington stamp club meeting

Stamp club to meet.

The next meeting of the Telford Stamp Club will take place on Monday, May 11, at 7.30pm, at the Belmont Hall, Wellington, where the club’s fairs are held. A guest speaker will give a talk and display on hand-illustrated envelopes. This should be an interesting evening. Hand-illustrated envelopes date back to Victorian times, when some people produced highly decorative and often humorous designs on their envelopes, sometimes incorporating space for the address and/or the stamp within the illustration.

Members and visitors are warmly invited to attend this talk and display, which is quite unusual, as such covers are not very common and tend to be expensive, so few collectors have many examples. There will be no charge for admission and adjacent car parking is also free. A small charge will be made to cover costs for those who would like tea or coffee at the half-time break.
