Declan Bark, an education presenter, and Darcy Kitchener, community engagement manager at the National Space Centre in Leicester, led the interactive session using 3D visualisation software.

Residents were shown the features of all eight planets and heard about space missions and the possibility of life beyond Earth. They could also choose where to travel next during the tour and put their questions to the presenters.

The visit was part of the National Space Centre’s Tea and Telescopes programme, which brings space science sessions to people in care settings.

Sally Turton, head of life enrichment for Barchester Healthcare, said the session offered residents a chance to see different planets and moons and learn more about them.

Wheatlands general manager Paula Wiggan said: “Our residents love finding out about new things and this tour literally was out of this world! It was like nothing we had ever seen before. We had so many questions, it was brilliant to be able to ask Declan and Darcy all about their experiences of working at the National Space Centre.”
