Midlands firm launches £5,000 fund to support people with mobility challenges

A Brierley Hill-based mobility equipment manufacturer has launched a £5,000 community fund to help people with reduced mobility across the West Midlands overcome accessibility barriers.

Sunrise Medical has introduced the Community Fund to support projects and experiences that enable disabled people to take part more fully in their communities.

The fund will provide financial assistance for initiatives that improve accessibility or help people achieve personal ambitions that may otherwise be out of reach because of mobility challenges or the additional costs associated with accessible travel and equipment.

Examples include funding accessible accommodation for family holidays, adapting travel arrangements, providing specialist mobility equipment for outdoor activities, or helping someone take part in an important life event such as their wedding.

The company said the fund is intended to support people in accessing experiences, activities and milestones that matter to them while encouraging more inclusive and wheelchair-friendly environments.

Lucy Evans, head of marketing at Sunrise Medical, said: "We know that the right support can help remove barriers and create more opportunities for people to take part in the moments and experiences that matter the most to them.

"We're encouraging people to share their stories with us and tell us what experience, opportunity or support would make the biggest difference. We want this fund to have a genuine and lasting impact on the lives of people with mobility issues."

Applications will be considered by a panel of Sunrise Medical representatives, with decisions based on the potential impact the funding could have on an applicant's quality of life.
