Woodland-inspired charcoal drawings to be auctioned

A series of charcoal drawings by a South Shropshire artist is going on sale this month after spending years stored away following their original exhibitions.

Russ Gilder’s ‘Woodland Presence’ collection was first displayed at the Granary Gallery, Weston Park, during exhibitions in 2010 and 2016, the latter held to mark the Capability Brown anniversary.

The drawings were inspired by the woodland and waterways of South Shropshire, including the River Teme at Ashford Carbonel, where Russ previously lived, and the nearby old viaduct.

Russ has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and was shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize, with his work held in collections across the UK, Europe and North America.

The ‘Woodland Presence’ series will be available through an online auction starting on Friday, August 14, and running for nine days, with the pieces being sold directly from the artist’s studio.
