AFC Telford United star inspires youngsters at summer soccer school

Fans favourite and star defender Oliver Cawthorne met local youngsters and dished out advice on careers in football at AFC Telford United Foundation’s Summer Soccer School.

Cawthorne, who is a mainstay of AFC Telford United’s National League North side, was at the foundation on Thursday to support the club’s summer-long programme of activities.

AFC Telford United Foundation is running a Soccer School throughout the summer, alongside Urban Games and KIX free football programmes in local communities.

Thursday’s visit was an opportunity for youngsters to tour the SEAH Stadium, enjoy a kick about with Cawthorne and grill him on life as a semi-professional footballer.

Tom Elliott, AFC Telford United Foundation Manager, said: “It was fantastic to see Oliver here today and have him interact so brilliantly with the youngsters at our Soccer School.

“Oliver is a great ambassador for the club, and we are thankful to Oliver for spending time coaching the youngsters and telling them all about his career in football.

“I’m looking forward to seeing more first-team players visit our Soccer Soccer and other sessions, so everyone can benefit from their experience.”

AFC Telford United Foundation’s Summer Soccer School runs at the SEAH Stadium every weekday until August 28th, with places still available.

The club’s community football sessions, which run throughout the borough this summer, are supported by Telford and Wrekin Council’s Urban Games and KIX programmes.

Oliver said: “It was great to meet so many young fans today and help them to enjoy the summer. I will be looking out for them during our next game at the SEAH Stadium on Saturday!

“I loved giving them some tips on how to develop their football skills and they asked some very good questions.

“The youngsters were very keen during the coaching session and I am delighted they went away with some new tricks to try out with their friends and families.

“We never forget those long summers of our childhoods, which is why soccer schools like this are so great. They create those lifelong memories.”

Places at the AFC Telford United Foundation Summer Soccer School for children aged 5-11, are still available. The cost is just £18 per day or £75 per week.
