World-class badminton will once again return to the Utilita Arena in Birmingham next spring.

The competition is the world’s oldest badminton tournament, having first been played in Guildford in 1899.

Its status is at the highest level of sport below the world championship and Olympic Games, therefore attracting the very best players in the world.

It has been held annually in Birmingham for more than 30 years.

The 2027 tournament will be the longest-running ever, moving six days in 2026 to 11.

Both the men’s singles and women’s singles draws have been expanded to include the top 48 athletes in each discipline.

This will see the introduction of a group phase, meaning there will be 219 matches in total during the 2027 tournament.
