The sound of stories, songs and spoken word will return to Much Wenlock later this month.

The Get A Word in Edgeways festival will return to Much Wenlock between October 13 and 15.

Described by organiser Mike Rust as a three-day "spoken word party", the weekend will feature dozens of events around the town, in many of its pubs, halls and community centres.

"We're an international storytelling poetry festival," Mike explained.

"Much Wenlock had a couple of really cool festivals before the pandemic. We've rolled them up together, and using a £26,000 grant from the Arts Council, we've given it a new name.

"Last year we did a field festival, the year before was a one day-er, so we're growing."

Among the events include a local stories walk, a drumming workshop, late-night spooky stories and a spoken word slam.

On Sunday, the festival will broadcast several of the events online, bringing guests from around the world to the Shropshire town from their armchairs.

"Zoom and online events has been a silver lining from the pandemic in the world of storytelling," Mike said.

"Storytellers can now reach into people's homes, so people from all over can have access to festivals like this without leaving their homes."

The event will close on Sunday with The Big Sing at the Corn Exchange, a just-for-fun singing performance from a male voice choir, including childhood favourites and sea shanties.

General admission for the weekend is £55, with day tickets available from £15. Tickets are also available for individual events.
