Review: Milton Jones, Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury

Surreal doesn't do it justice. Nor does absurd. Milton Jones is a one-off; a hilarious and absurd bon viveur with crazy shirts a ridiculous fringe and some of the best one-liners in the game.

Last night, he brought his sell-out show to Shrewsbury's Theatre Severn – and left the audience laughing in the aisles.

The Mock The Week star appeals to everyman: young couples, happy families and those who carry the grey pound were all enthralled by his populist schtick.

Jones's unique selling point is his death-defying word play. He's clean, too, avoiding the profane in favour of the smart. Everyday language and everyday sayings are flipped on their heads with hilarious effect.

Like Tim Vine, he's extremely bright and a brilliant technician. Fast-paced, self-assured and possessed of a vivid mind, he gave Theatre Severn plenty to think about with a rapacious set.

As his set drew to a close, his audience were exhausted.
