Knighton - the town with two carnival parades in one day - will be hosting the 2026 event on Saturday
The Powys town which famously has two parades in one day will be holding its 2026 event on Saturday, August 29.
Knighton Carnival and Show promises fun, excitement and colour for all the family.
This year's theme is shows and musicals so there are sure to be some spectacular, colourful costumes and floats for spectators to spot showing off the town's creativity and imagination
This year's procession will start at around 12.30pm and it will be led by the princess float, which for the first time ever will have two mini princesses on board – Coco Sutton, nine, and Maesi O'Rourke, eight.
They were chosen to represent the youngest members of the community and they are looking forward to a memorable day.
They will be crowned at the cenotaph in town by Knighton Show President at around 1pm and the organisers say the procession entries are already looking very healthy with several lorries and trailers already registered.
The carnival procession promises decorated floats, walking groups, vintage vehicles, music, and much more, making it a wonderful celebration for residents and visitors alike.
After the daytime parade, entertainment and attractions will fill Bryn Y Castell for the afternoon while Knighton Community Centre will host the horticulture, floral and handicraft exhibitions.
On Bryn Y Castell the entertainment and attractions will include donkey rides, vintage cars, a fire engine, equine competitions, and a dog show with registration from 2pm and fun from 2.30pm. There will be pedigree and novelty classes for all dogs including categories such as a child's best friend, best golden oldie and marvellous markings.
There will also be a gun dog scurry from 3pm.
There will be lots of activities for children including bouncy castles and a ball pit, a human fruit machine, Joey's balloon models, and Looby Lou face painting.
The MAD mountain bikes display team will be there, there will be laser clay shooting, a climbing wall, a wildlife display, Ferret World, Ultimate Frisbee and a Welsh Axemen Competition.
Small Town Samba will bring a carnival atmosphere, Knighton Town Silver Band will also be playing and there will be live music throughout the day with Steve Yeomans and Friends at the Cenotaph from 12.30pm
Then at the showground the music will continue with Bex, Stan B, Betsy and Bea, Lauren G, Bethany Davies, Chloe Lewis and ending with the Shop Front Heroes at 4.40pm.
Food and drink on the showground will be plentiful with numerous stands including Corndon Catering with burgers, Donuts, The Banc with a bar, K and C Yarwood Ice Cream, Le Flip Creperies, M and S Pizza, Mr Gyro Ltd, Old English Sweets, Severn Valley Roast, the Comm Cafe and Baras Bakes.
In the community centre, competition will be tough in a huge variety of classes including flowers and plants, fruit and vegetables, floral art, art and handicraft, art cakes, preserves, photography and miscellaneous classes.
There will be children and young people's classes, beginners classes, special educational needs classes and dementis friendly classes.
The evening procession will then take place at about 8.30pm.
Although this year's fireworks display has been cancelled and the fire torches used to light up the parade can't be used because of the recent hot and dry weather and fire risks, organisers are encouraging people to light up Knighton safely.
They are encouraged people to use fairy lights to light up their floats or themselves and dress up and sparkle to turn the evening procession into a spectacular celebration of light and make the town shine!
Those joining in the procession by dressing up in this year’s theme will qualify for free entry into the show.
Otherwise entry prices are £9 for adults which includes entry into the community centre, £5 for the community centre, £3 for children under 16 and free for under 2's
Once entry has been paid all of the activities on the showground for children are free.
