Macy O, from Highley, is just 14 but has already released two singles and recorded and played at the famous Abbey Road studios in London and The Cavern Club in Liverpool.

Her latest release, I'm Your High, received 5,000 plays on its first day of release and she presented former Take That star Mark Owen with a copy and received one from him in return at a HMV promotional visit this week.

Her last release, No Home, has been nominated in the best single category at the Shropshire Music Awards which take place next Thursday in Telford.

The single was recorded at Abbey Road and released in response to the crisis in Ukraine. It has received airplay on national and regional BBC radio

Busy Macy is also on a UK tour of HMV music stores and was in Glasgow and Edinburgh last weekend, with visits to Liverpool, Brighton and Portsmouth to follow.

Her mother Naomi said the encouragement she had received from the tour, playing venues in-between and the nomination had been a major boost.

Naomi said: "It's been a whirlwind because apart from doing the HMV tour and zipping all over the country, she has gigs at various venues in between and now has been nominated for this major awards show.

"We don't even know where the nomination has come from but both the singles have done really well - the second one has only just been released but the figures are already good so we can only imagine it has been feedback from fans or people who have seen her perform.

"As well as the reviews, feedback and generally a fantastic reception for her music she has met the likes of Mark Owen and James Bay who have encouraged her to keep getting herself out there as much as she can.

"Macy says she is overwhelmed by being nominated for the best single category against some stiff opposition but she has done all this herself through talent, writing her own songs and, of course, hard work, so she deserves to be up there."

The Shropshire Music Awards have been set up by community interest company CultureTainment which, among other things, provides artist support, workshops and mentoring services.

The ceremony takes place on Thursday, October 6, at The Place, Telford, from 6pm-11pm. For more details go to shropshiremusicawards.co.uk.
