Powys Singers rehearsing for Remembrance events after busy end of summer
The Bracken Trust Singers performed in five concerts in August and September, their first being at the Metropole Hotel on Wednesday August 19.
A spokesperson said: “The evening started on rather “a low key” because after previously playing in the upstairs Powys Suite, which at the time was being decorated, the Singers were sent downstairs to the David Spencer Suite.
“This disappointment continued in the same vein because there was a small audience including three friends who had come to support the group. The evening and the room were both warm, in keeping with the summer of 2026.
“The audience enjoyed the efforts of the Singers who gave their all for the cause.”
The following Wednesday, the Singers were “wonderful”, again giving their time and efforts, and singing with gusto - despite being a little low in numbers especially the ladies.
However, it was a great surprise to witness the biggest audience the group have had the pleasure of performing before, between 70 and 100, and the room looked full.
The residents and visitors looked as if they were enjoying the evening, joining in with the singing, laughing and clapping enthusiastically.
Singing member and Bracken Trust Trustee Barry Hicks M.B.E. gave a short talk on the Trust’s work, which encouraged many people to put money in the box afterwards. That was the Singers last evening concert for this year at the Metropole Hotel and they said it was great to finish on a 'high note'.
Two days later, the Singers performed at Llandewi Hall for Maureen, a member of the Singers, and Bryan’s belated wedding celebration Garden Party. It was held inside due to the uncertain weather forecast.
Leader Vera Buckler gave a big “thank you” to the Singers who performed at Crosfield House, Rhayader on September 22, adding that members did a grand job as usual, singing with gusto and joy. The residents and staff appeared to enjoy the morning’s entertainment, singing along with the music and giving the group members a smile.
The final concert of the five was at Wylesfield Home, Llandrindod Wells on September 29.
The singing was great, with the Singers smiling and looking as if they were enjoying themselves. The residents seemed to enjoy the morning’s performance, with many singing along and smiling.
The group members themselves would like to say a big thank you to their leader Vera, and pianist Sue for all the work they do.
During the month of October, the Singers commenced practising their programme for the Remembrance Day concerts, at present they are booked for morning appearances at Wylesfield on November 10 and Crosfield on November 11 Armistice Day.
