Citroen set to bring back iconic ‘2CV’ nameplate

The new model will form part of Stellantis’ ‘FaSTLAne’ product strategy, which will introduce 60 new models by 2030.
Citroen has announced that it’s developing a new compact EV which will use the iconic 2CV nameplate.
The new 2CV will form part of Stellantis’ ‘FaSTLAne’ product strategy, which will introduce 60 new models across its brands by 2030.
There are no details on the 2CV’s exterior or interior design at this stage, although Citroen says that the new car will focus on ‘affordability, lightweight design, practicality, versatility and will have a distinctive character’.
Powertrain details have not been confirmed, but the new 2CV will come with an electric set-up, which is likely to be used in several models developed under the ‘FaSTLAne’ programme.

Xavier Chardon, CEO of Citroen, said: “Reinventing the 2CV is a huge challenge and responsibility. The original 2CV was never created to be an icon. It became one because it gave people freedom. The new 2CV will carry the same spirit forward – not through nostalgia, but by reinventing its simplicity and accessibility for today’s world.
He added: “The new 2CV will re-enchant electric mobility for a new generation through a highly desirable model.”
Further details on the new Citroen 2CV will be revealed at this year’s Paris Motor Show, which takes place from October 12 to October 18.
