Wolves star describes 'out of this world' feeling after World Cup bow
The defender set up the opening goal on a strong night for his nation.
Wolves star David Moller Wolfe has described the feeling of playing for Norway at the World Cup as “out of this world”.
The left-back made an excellent start to the tournament, setting up Erling Haaland for the opening goal in Tuesday’s 4-1 win over Iraq.
Moller Wolfe has been a mainstay of the Norway side which ended 28 years of hurt by qualifying for the finals for the first time since 1998.
A team of which Haaland is undoubtedly the key figure went unbeaten through qualifying.
Moller Wolfe, during an interview with Wolves Express, said he was “proud and honoured” to have played his part.
He said: “It is probably one of the proudest moments of my career.
“For anyone who plays football probably the biggest thing you can do is represent your country in a World Cup.
“Norway hasn’t been there for 28 years, so that makes it even more special. I feel very proud and honoured.”
Moller Wolfe, who joined Wolves last summer from AZ Alkmaar, made his international debut three years ago.
Asked if he had every dreamed of playing at the World Cup, he replied: “Of course, 100 per cent I dreamed about it. But you don’t really dream of such big things.
“To play with Norway in a World Cup is a bit out of this world. I am so proud.
“I don’t like to whine about being a footballer because it is a privilege.
“But all the sacrifices you make when you are young, all the hard work, is all worth it.
“Now I can say I played in the Premier League. To be able to say I played in a World Cup as well is so big.”
Norway, managed by former Wolves boss Stale Solbakken, are next in action against Senegal on Monday, before facing France in their final Group I fixture next Friday.
“It’s such an amazing feeling,” continued Moller Wolfe. “To sing the national anthem every time, you get goosebumps.
“To do that now in America is something I will remember for the rest of my life.
“We are very happy to be there but we also want to make a mark on the tournament. We have expectations to do the best we can.
“The levels of every national team now is so good. We will take it one match at a time and see how far we can get.”
Moller Wolfe is one of several Wolves players at the World Cup. Another of those, midfielder Jean Ricner-Bellegarde, will be in action on Friday night when Haiti take on Brazil.
Ricner-Bellegarde played the full 90 minutes last weekend as the Haitians went down to a 1-0 defeat against Scotland. They now face one of the favourites for the tournament in Carlo Ancelotti's side.
Defender Santiago Bueno, meanwhile, will hope to make his World Cup bow when Uruguay face Cape Verde on Sunday in their second group stage fixture. Bueno was an unused substitute in a 1-1 draw against Saudi Arabia earlier this week.
