Wolves sack head coach Vitor Pereira
Wolves have sacked head coach Vitor Pereira following their defeat to Fulham.
The 57-year-old has been relieved of his duties after less than a year in charge after Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Craven Cottage, as Wolves slipped to eight defeats in 10 Premier League matches this season.
Pereira was only awarded a new three-year contract in September and the Wolves hierarchy were keen to keep him, but the latest defeat and the manner of it has led chairman Jeff Shi to sack the head coach.
Wolves are now in discussions with potential suitors as they seek his replacement.
Pereira only arrived at Wolves in December last year when he took over from Gary O'Neil, with Wolves 19th in the division on nine points.
He managed to keep them up, picking up enough results alongside a six-game winning run, as Wolves retained their Premier League status.
But after a difficult summer in which the club lost several key players and replaced them with unproven talent, they are now facing another tough relegation battle.
All eight of Pereira's backroom staff have also left the club, with Wolves' announcement of their departure insisting that 'results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary'.
Under-21s head coach James Collins and under-18s head coach Richard Walker are taking first team training while the club find their new manager.
Executive chairman Jeff Shi said: “Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful.
“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.
“We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”
