Wolves forward set for medical ahead of loan move

Fer Lopez is set for a medical today ahead of completing a loan move back to former club Celta Vigo.

The Wolves forward has already flown to Spain to complete the switch after the two clubs came to an agreement on a loan until the end of the season, without an option to buy.

The 21-year-old made the move to Wolves from Celta in the summer, in a £19.5million deal, but has struggled for game time under both Vitor Pereira and new boss Rob Edwards.

Lopez has played just 12 times in all competitions, including just two Premier League starts, and he returns to Spain for more game time.

Celta are covering Lopez' full wages until the end of the season and are also paying Wolves a small loan fee.

Wolves considered sending Lopez to the Championship on loan, ahead of Wolves' likely relegation this season, but instead sent him to his former club who had shown early interest in taking him back on loan.

Head coach Edwards was asked recently about the prospect of sending Lopez on loan and although he did not directly address it, he did hint at any move having to be right for the player as well as Wolves.

He said: "I think what we've done with any of those lads that have gone out on loan, is we've looked at the individual, what they need, and, again, does it work for us? We won't allow anyone out if it doesn't work for us.

"But, also, there's an individual side to look at and a human side to look at and think, 'right, what does this player need and what's the right thing for him as well?'

"It's my boring answer, I know it's my stock one at the moment, but on every individual basis, that's how we have to judge it. Fer's no different."

When asked about Lopez' lack of game time, Edwards added: "I feel in those areas at the moment, we've got some real good competition. So I don't think it's any slight on him if he's not getting the minutes that he will want.

"He's not been moaning about it, I think he gets it and understands as well."
