"We lost two points" - Wolves boss frustrated at late equaliser

A frustrated Vitor Pereira believes it was two points lost rather than one gained when Wolves conceded late at Spurs.

Santi Bueno's first Wolves goal set his side up for their first Premier League win of the season, until Joao Palhinha's heartbreaking 94th minute equaliser.

Wolves put in a resolute performance and also earned their first point of the campaign, but Pereira was left disappointed at the late goal that denied them a much-needed win.

Pereira said: "Of course (I am proud), but the question is whether we won one point or lost two. My answer is we lost two points.

"The team showed that we came here to win the game, especially in the second half, because the first half was a bit difficult to control the crosses and some movements.

"The second half was one where we deserved to win the game, in my opinion, but football is football.

"In the end, from nothing, we concede and we lost the two points."

Despite that frustration, Pereira also believes his side will drag themselves out of the relegation zone if they maintain the level of performance they put in at Spurs.

He added: "I have two feelings, one of pride in my players and happy with the spirit and ambition they showed in the game.

"And frustrated because we had three points in our pocket and we lost two points in the last minute, it's difficult.

"But I said to them that with this spirit, personality and playing like this we will get the points we need."

Wolves started with a back four at Spurs but switched to a back five at half-time, as they kept Spurs' attacking talents at bay.

When asked for the reason for his change, Pereira said: "We started with a four but faced problems controlling the crosses.

"We delayed the cover in the sides and they created some chances in the first half.

"We realised in this way it wasn't possible and we needed to go to a five and in the second half we controlled the game, we played better football and in the end we deserved to win the game."

Wolves now go into a home match with Brighton next up before two huge clashes at Sunderland and against Burnley at Molineux.

Pereira is still searching for his first Premier League win this season but the head coach is confident that things are starting to fall into place.

"I feel that we started to work with the team two weeks ago," Pereira said.

"Before the Everton game we started to work with the team, because before it was not possible.

"Some of the players came at the end of the market and after they went to their national teams.

"Now we are working, tactically and mentally, building the team, the spirit between the players, putting them on the same tactical page and understanding what we want in two different systems.

"I'm very happy with the players because in the last two games we showed that we can compete."
